Privacy Policy
Microbiology AI Pro ("we", "our", or "the app") helps you solve microbiology questions by scanning a photo or typing your problem, then showing a step-by-step AI solution. It also includes an AI Microbiology Tutor, flashcards, quizzes, and offline lab tools. This policy explains what information is processed when you use the app and how we protect it.
1. Information we process
Problem images and text. When you scan a problem with your camera, select a photo from your library, or type a question, the image or text is sent over HTTPS to our secure backend (a Cloudflare Worker) to produce an AI solution. The image is processed to extract the problem text and is not stored server-side. Only the extracted problem text is retained long enough to generate the solution.
Tutor chat messages. When you use the AI Microbiology Tutor, the messages and any attached worksheet images you send are transmitted over HTTPS to our backend to generate a reply. Chat content is processed to answer your question and is not stored server-side after the request completes. Tutor conversations may be kept locally on your device for the session.
Anonymous device identifier. A random UUID stored on your device (UserDefaults/Keychain) is used to enforce free-solve limits and link your App Store subscription. It is not your name, email, or Apple ID.
Level and preferences. Your study level selected during onboarding is sent with solve requests to tailor explanation depth. This stays on your device.
Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to verify Pro status. We do not receive your payment card details.
Local data on your device. Your solve history, favorites, theme, flashcard progress, quiz results, and onboarding answers are stored locally on your iPhone using SwiftData. This data does not leave your device unless you back up your phone through Apple.
Offline tools. The built-in lab tools (Serial Dilution, CFU/mL, Generation Time, Total Magnification, Hemocytometer Count, Log Reduction), the growth curve visualizer, the formula reference, and on-device Flashcards & Quizzes content run entirely on your device. Using these features sends no data to us or to any third party — all computation happens locally in the app.
2. What we do not collect
- No account registration or email required to use the app
- No advertising trackers or third-party ad SDKs
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not store your solved problem images server-side
- No analytics SDK in v1 — only a local free-solve counter
3. How AI solving and tutoring work
Your submitted problem image or text (and Tutor chat messages) is sent over HTTPS to our secure backend API, which forwards a processing request to a third-party AI service that generates the step-by-step solution or tutor reply. The request includes only the content needed to produce a response and your anonymous device ID for rate limiting. It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID. Problem images and tutor attachments are not stored on our servers after the request completes.
4. Camera & photo library access
Scan mode uses your camera (AVFoundation) and Apple's photo picker. You choose a specific image; we do not scan your entire photo library in the background. Crop-to-problem happens on-device before upload. Camera access is requested only when you tap Scan, and can be denied or revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera: "We use your camera to scan and solve microbiology questions instantly."
- Photo library: "Select photos of microbiology problems from your library to solve them."
5. Data retention
Server-side rate-limit counters are stored temporarily in Cloudflare KV and linked only to your anonymous device ID. We do not maintain a long-term archive of your problem images or content on our servers after a request completes. History and favorites on your device remain until you delete them or uninstall the app.
6. Children's privacy
Microbiology AI Pro is an educational tool intended for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because we use minimal identifiers, deleting the app and clearing local data removes most information associated with your use. For subscription data, manage your account through Apple.
8. International users
Our backend infrastructure may process data in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the app, you consent to this processing for the purpose of delivering the service.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
